Best Socially Distanced Date Night Out in Portland / by Raya Lieberman

So, you’re stuck in your house desperately imagining some sun soaked cafe in southern Italy that you would definitely be lounging at sipping Campari if only we weren’t in the midst of a global pandemic? We’ve all been there. Netflix and takeout is fun, but only so fun. Your floor needs to be swept, the dog won’t stop barking, and date night in is just not working out.

You’re in luck! Instead of carving a spot out of the unfolded laundry on the couch, come bring your dinner to an oasis of flowers in the middle of the city. Sunblossom Farm is a flower farm and bee sanctuary in NE Portland that is full of the scent of lavender and roses and feels like stepping into a tiny other world. The gate is so overgrown that it has become a tangle of vines, and passing through feels reminiscent of The Secret Garden or the first steps into Narnia (minus the snow of course.) They are hosting special date nights where you can have the entire place to yourself to pick flowers, admire bugs, sit by the pond, and maybe take a little break from zoom calls and the horror of facebook comments.

At the end of the evening you will get to go home with a bouquet of flowers, and if you’re anything like me they might glow as the only beacon of beauty in a worryingly messy kitchen. I know that flowers are such a tiny thing, but in the midst of it all the tiny things make life more bearable.

But that’s not all! If you want one more special thing to bring home with you, you can add a mini photo session with me to your date night package. Let me come for a little portion of your evening and capture the love that is carrying you through 2020, so you can have at least one soft and warm memory of this summer to remind you of all the good that is still in the world. You deserve it.

If I haven’t sold you on a magical private flower farm picnic at this point I don’t know what to tell you, but if you are sold, you can check out all the information and reserve a spot here.
